Belton House, England

23 March 2012

Andrew needed to see the military dentist. The nearest one was a few hours away. We decided to make it a road trip and explore a manor house.

Belton House was amazing. Located in Belton near Grantham in Lincolnshire, the Brownlow and Cust families lived at Belton for over 300 years. Sir John Brownlow and his wife built Belton between 1685 and 1688. Belton House is a great example of Carolean architecture and has been described as an example of a typical English country house. In 1984 Edward Cust, 7th Baron Brownlow gifted the house and most of its contents to the National Trust.

The Orangery and Italian Garden are stunning. Especially when viewed during the soft spring light at the end of the day.
