Canons Ashby, England

27 February 2012

Julie, another Canadian spouse, and I decided to visit Canons Ashby. It was close to home, an easy trip. Except we had had torrential rain for days before. The drive took twice as long as it should have thanks to many flooded roads and detours. When we arrived we we told that the house would not be open today. Another time.

Baddesley Clinton, England

25 February 2012

After visiting Baddesley Clinton with Amanda and her kids I knew that I had to return with Andrew. We have visited many places but the Priest's Hiding Holes were unique.

Fountains Abbey, England

19 February 2012

Our weekend in Yorkshire was coming to an end. Josh, Christina and Josh's parents were amazing hosts. Our last stop was Fountains Abbey. It was a little chilly but we were dressed for the weather. Even Brittany was wearing her boots, soft shell jacket and wool sweater for her day spent exploring the site.

The abbey was founded in 1132 and operated for over 400 hundred years until 1539 when King Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Tintern Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved Cistercian Monastery in England.

In 1886 Studley Royal Park and Tintern Abbey were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Before we began the journey home, Josh and Christina took us to Swinton Park where they are getting married in Dcember. It will be a fairy tale wedding in a fairy tale venue. I wish that we would still be in England to attend.
