The Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland

02 September 2011

When I was planning for my family's visit, I knew that I wanted to take them to Ireland. On the day of my 40th birthday we woke at 3 am. I got us a great deal on the flights so it meant we had to fly out of Birmingham early in the morning It was be a day spent on trains, planes and automobiles. It is amazing to have your family come and visit your for your birthday, especially your 40th. It is even more amazing to spend it in Northern Ireland. I found us a fab hostel right next to the Giant's Causeway. All 6 of us would be sleeping in one room. When we arrived in Derry I asked the information desk about the buses that would take us to our hostel. I had the information thanks to Rick Steves but I wanted to confirm. Instead of taking the bus, which would have taken longer and cost more we hired a people mover to take us.

It's my 40th birthday and I am celebrating it in Northern Ireland with my husband and family. I am excited. I have also only had 2 hours sleep. (Andrew's picture)

It was pouring rain but we were not going to let that stop us. We walked to the local pub for a warm lunch and a pint. It was a cold and windy day. After our lunch had warmed us up it was time to walk to the Giant's Causeway.

We were soaked to the skin. It was back to the pub. As the rain fell and the wind howled we sat by the coal fire for our supper. We lingered after supper. Finally with drier clothes, full bellies and felling a little warm we walked back to our room for some much needed sleep.
