Antrim Coast, Northern Ireland

03 September 2011

Mark and I woke up before dawn so we could watch the sun rise over the Giant's Causeway. Depsite the wind and cold it was a beautiful experience.

It was back to the hostel for breakfast with the rest of the family. Thanks to Rick Steves we knew which bus to take to tour the main sites of the Antrim Coast. And the bus stop was right in front of our hostel.

Our first stop of the day was the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. I am terrified of height. TERRIFIED. But I decided that for my birthday I would do something that scared me. Walking the rope bridge terrified me And I walked across it despite my fears. Even after hearing that people have blown off of the island in the past on windy days. There were days growing up in Newfoundland when I blew away thanks to gale force winds so the concept of blowing off an island was not foreign to me.

We had enough time for a quick lunch before we caught the next bus that would take us to Dunluce Castle.

Our last stop of the day was Bushmills. We explored the town and stopped for supper at a cafe before heading back to the hostel for the night.

Andrew and I walked along the coast and explored the Giant's Causeway and watched the sun set under the ocean.

Before bed we walked to the pub for a pint and dessert.
