Snowshill Lavender, England

26 July 2011

Tucked away in the Cotswolds is a patchwork of rolling hills covered in purple – Snowshills Lavender. I have to thank my Rick Steves’ Great Britain for introducing me to this gem. We first visited in the spring. It was beautiful but I knew that come July the place would be stunning. I knew that I would be coming back. And so I waited, waited for that perfect day.

35 varieties of lavender grown on 53 acres in the beautiful Cotswolds landscape. Visiting Snowshill Lavender is a treat for the senses. The air was filled with the soothing fragrance of lavender being distilled. The sun warmed my face while a soft breeze caressed plants and people alike. Butterflies fluttered from plant to plant. The air hummed by the sounds of the birds and the bees. My wait for that perfect day was well worth it.

A tour of the lavender fields is just £2.50. Before we moved here, I spent time at the spa trying to relax. Those spa trips were nice but did not really relax me. Walking around those lavender fields…now that was RELAXING. And for only £2.50. I am not sure if it was the magic of the Cotswolds, the sunny day or the lavender blowing in the breeze. I wish that I could put the peace of Snowshill Lavender in my pocket and take it with me forever. I will have to settle for carrying that peace in my heart. Every town should be blessed with to have beautiful lavender fields.

Stop into the gift shop and treat yourself to a lavender treat and have a cup of lavender tea and lavender scone in the cafe. The peace and beauty will stay with you long after you leave.
