Barnard Castle, England

28 April 2011

Barnard Castle is a market town along the River Tees in County Durham. For almost a thousand years there has been a castle on this site. In the later part of the 12th century the castle was rebuilt. The castle was eventually inherited by King Richard III through his wife Anne Neville and fell into ruin after his death.

First we explored the castle ruin. Barnard Castle has been visited by Charles Dickens, Walter Scott, William Wordsworth, Daniel Defoe, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Bill Bryson.

After exploring the castle we walked through the village. Andrew's mom's family is Boyes. I wonder if he has relives in this area.

We stopped for lunch at an amazing sidewalk cafe. And that dessert. (Sorry Andrew for the food in your mouth chewing picture)
